Regaining Biblical Literacy
THE SITUATION
Some shocking thoughts and statistics:
- Only 3 out of 5 Christians read their bible weekly. – Lifeway Research
- In their research, the Barna Group, summarizes the situation this way:
“Americans revere the Bible–but, by and large, they don’t read it. And because they don’t read it, they have become a nation of biblical illiterates.”
- From the Holman Bible Handbook:
"While Medieval Christians were separated from the Bible by ecclesiastical authority, many modern Christians are separated by apathy. Herein lies the first and most vital principle about the Bible for Christian living. In order to guide faith and life, the Bible must be read and used. The most potent enemy of Christian life has always been neglect of Scripture."
If we don’t read and use our Bibles, Satan wins.
We strongly encourage reading the Bible daily. Daily scripture readings are based on our current worship focus. We also provide a weekly devotional to start your mornings. And for those truly committed to furthering their study and understanding of God's word, we have provided a plan that guides you through reading the entire bible in a year!
We also offer many opportunities to study God's word in a focused group setting. Click here to see a list of our current bible studies that are open to everyone.

Weekly Devotion August 25, 2024
A good name is like a tapestry woven over time, thread by thread. Each choice, each word, each act of kindness or grace adds a new color or pattern. The world’s gold and silver are flashy, and they tempt us to trade our integrity for fleeting wealth, but Proverbs 22 suggests the true treasure lies in the name you’re weaving.
Consider Jesus, the name above all names (Philippians 2:9-11). His life was woven with love, sacrifice, and grace. He didn’t chase after riches or power, but he remains the most influential person to ever walk the earth. Through his selfless love to lay down his life for us, he showed us that a good name rooted in God’s will is the most precious legacy we can leave.
Followers of Jesus are invited to weave our names into his story. With every act of love and every step of faith, we add to a legacy that reflects his character. Our name becomes more than just ours—it becomes a reflection of his, shining with the light of his love, and others will notice! The author of Proverbs 22 continues, “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it” (Proverbs 22:6).
Ask yourself these questions: What name am I weaving? Does it echo the love of Jesus and his humility? Let us add to a legacy not for the sake of glorifying our name but his. His is the name that will endure forever, far beyond the fleeting riches of this world. Together, we’ll praise his name for eternity with all those we love with our choices, words, and acts of kindness and grace.

Bible in a Year
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness”
2 Timothy 3:16
Don’t let yourself become a slave to the method. Don’t get so caught up in the mechanics of how you’re reading the Scripture that you miss the point. Remember the goal is not how fast you can get through the Bible. The goal is to meet with God each day. It’s to get the Word—the living, written Word—into you and to cultivate an intimate relationship with Jesus, the living Word.
The only thing that is important is that you GET STARTED - and daily spend time in God's word! Click on the link below to download a PDF schedule.
